Bikaner is a city in the northwest of the state of Rajasthan in northern India. It is located 330 kilometres (205 mi) northwest of the state capital, Jaipur. Bikaner city is the administrative headquarters of Bikaner Districtand Bikaner division. It was formerly the capital of the princely state of Bikaner. The city was founded by Rao Bika. In 1486 and from its small origins it has developed into the fifth largest city in Rajasthan.



Bikaner is situated in the middle of the Thar Desert and has a hot desert climate with very little rainfall and extreme temperatures. In summer temperatures can exceed 45 °C, and during the winter they may dip below freezing.

How to reach:

By Air:

Jodhpur Airport is the airport nearest to Bikaner; it is well equipped with the latest facilities. You can easily reach the airport through road via public transport. here one can get many direct and indirect flights to different destinations like . Nal Airport is under construction and is 13kms from Bikaner. You can take flight from Delhi to Jodhpur, flights from Jaipur to Jodhpur and from other major cities to reach Bikaner.

By Roadways:

Bikaner is well-connected by a network of roads which makes your road trip comfortable. You can easily reach your desired destination through state-run and private buses. Apart from buses, there are also various other means of public transport which you can avail.

By Railway:

The city has two railway stations, namely, Bikaner Junction and Lalgarh Railway Station. From here you can take trains to various destinations such as Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur and many more.

Laxmi Nuwas Palace:

The Laxmi Niwas Palace is a former resident palace built by Maharajah Ganga Singh, the ruler of the former state of Bikaner. It was designed by the British architect, Col Samuel Swinton Jacob in the year 1902. The style of architecture is Indo-Saracenic. The magnificent structure in red sandstone is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Bikaner.

Karni Mata Temple:

The world famous shrine of Karni Mata can be found in the town of Deshnoke 30 km south from Bikaner on the road to Jodhpur. Karni Mata is worshiped as an incarnation of Goddess Durga.

Junagarh Fort:

The Junagarh Fort and its temples and palaces are preserved as museums and provide insight into the grandiose living style of the past Maharanas of Rajasthan.

The Gajner palace turned into the Grand Heritage hotel. The palace is situated on the banks of the Gajner Lake. It is built by red sand stone & is a fine example of the great Rajasthani architecture.

It is spread over 6000 acres. The Gajner palace is a 30-minute drive from Bikaner. Gajner Palace was built by Sir Ganga Singh ji, He was the greatest Maharajas of Bikaner, in the early decades of twentieth century.

Gajner Palace was used as a hunting resort by the former Maharajas and visiting British dignitaries during the Raj days. Christmas season was oftenly celebrated with arranged duck and Imperial Sand Grouse shoots. Royalty whether National and International, Viceroys and other dignitaries were also invited on this grand occasion.
